I searched the web for blogs from other baseball host moms but have yet to find any. If other host moms are anything like me, its because of lack of time! I'm starting this blog with more than 1/2 of the season over. My intentions were to get started during training camp.
I'm a host mom for the River City Rascals in the independent Frontier League. Some may say that other indy leagues are "better" or "more talented", but because of the age and experience restrictions, the FL has the attention of more affiliated scouts. I would never trade our young enthusiastic players for the washed-up old guys that play in some of the other indy leagues.
The Rascals are currently at Rockford. We are in 1st place by one game and the Windy City Thunderbolts are in 2nd. I don't remember ever being in this position (1st place) so late in the season. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel. Like all the other die hard Rascals fans, I have been disappointed so much that its hard to even consider that fact that the team might actually make the playoffs!
My current host sons are both rookie pitchers. They come from the same college and knew each other before they were signed. The season is not at all how I had planned it to be. I thought my host son from last year would be back with me for the season. I would have a starting position player with whom I already had a good relationship and who's dad I consider a friend. Well, such is the life of a minor league host family. Nothing ever works out as planned.
Enough random thoughts. Tim and I are actually going out to see a movie tonight. Our anniversary is Monday.
